He looked away. He had seen enough. "So that's why you all tricked me, so I wouldn't waste my life, or waste time needed to vanquish the Imprisoned." Silence came from all corners, and the knight was left shaking his head wordlessly. It was a shame that all of this danger had to occur, that Zelda had to be kidnapped, that he had been called to become the Chosen in a story he had not intended, and it was a shame that one of his friends was about to die.

Jacqueline shuddered to life, her skin a waxy-pale color. Her grip on his hand was failing, and he held it up for her. Impa walked to Zelda and whispered low in her ear before falling back to the Gate and waiting on the stairs. The spirit maiden looked to the side in thought, and then she looked to her friends. She got up and paced, "There must be another way..."

Fi looked to Zelda, "There is a small chance of probability that there is a way to escape this situation, Lady Zelda." The spirit maiden continued to pace and Link looked down at Jacqueline. He sighed, "You're right...I can't forgive you for this, Jacqueline."

She looked up at him as he continued on, "Why would you throw your life away for this? Why would you go through all of that suffering alone, to hide what was inside of you? I know why you lied to me, but that was a selfish thing to do--I could have helped, I...I could have done something to help you out! But you don't even want or need my help, and I can't fathom why." He was angry, however he could not direct the anger towards anyone but himself, and to the ones that had made events turn out the way they did. The ornaments were still attached to Jacqueline, however they seemed different; no longer did they have any special meaning, other than to symbolize that she still belonged to Ghirahim as long as she remained tainted.

He narrowed his eyes and struggled to take one of her bracers off; it wouldn't budge. "What are you doing..." Her voice came softly, and he continued to patiently work his hands. "I'm taking this away from you; I've had enough of these things." He worked hard at trying to worm his fingers under the bracer, but try as he might, it wouldn't move. He growled with frustration and shook his head. He sighed and instead held her hand, her fingers feebly reinforcing their grip on his. He met her eyes solemnly, "...Why did you run from your actions?"

"If you're talking...about Thomas' accident....it was because I was scared...ashamed...bitter..I couldn't show my face....to my parents...or risk getting caught by police.....I knew what I'd done was wrong.....I just didn't care.....and I was too ashamed to face the truth..."

"What is the truth?"

"That....it was an accident..and what I did was wrong...they probably took off...because they were...afraid, too...you can't really think...when you're afraid..." Each breath was laboring and sapped some of her strength each time, and Link was reminded of the desert and facing the giant monster that Ghirahim had summoned up. He closed his eyes to savor the memory and empathize with her words. "...I understand that perfectly." He opened his eyes again and looked up at Fi, "And you were keeping Jacqueline's fate a secret. Why?"

Fi chose her words carefully, "Master Link, you were not meant to know. To unveil the true nature of a need for a false maiden to you would utterly distort the timeline we reside within. I am afraid I cannot reveal more, for your sake and for Lady Zelda's." Link was not satisfied, but left it at that. "More and more secrets..." He shook his head and looked back to Jacqueline. "What will happen once you...die? Will you be able to go home?"

Jacqueline shrugged weakly, her shoulders barely rising at all. "..Don't....know....I'll....find out..." Silence fell upon the scene again, and Link brushed his eyes with the back of his forearm. "...Jacqu--" Impa suddenly stormed up the stairwell, running with haste. "Lady Zelda, we cannot keep the Gate open; a darkness is collapsing the gate upon the other side! All is falling to chaos!"

Zelda's eyes snapped to Impa, "What do you mean?"

"The destruction of the world; it is falling apart! The gate is being destroyed upon the other end unless we do something to prevent it! We must continue the Chosen's quest immediately!" Zelda looked to Link, tears pouring from her eyes. "I'm sorry, Link...but it's time to say goodbye."

He gaped, "...Already?" He looked back at Jacqueline, whose eyes were flickering with fading light. There was no time left, no hope left. She nodded and Zelda instructed Link to carry the girl with him to the far end of the room. Zelda turned to Link, "My purpose as the spirit maiden is to be the reincarnate of the Goddess Hylia, returned to the world to bring peace and prosperity in the coming darkness. As such, I must do what I can to keep the darkness from interfering with your future, Link--rather, the future of Skyloft and its people."

"What are you saying?" Link staggered forwards, his body remembering the wounds he had suffered the moment he had begun to stand up. Zelda looked to him, "I must remain here, in this timeline, and form a seal on the Imprisoned to prevent His return. However, it will not be enough without all of my power..." She looked at Jacqueline, who was beginning to lose consciousness. The girl nodded and raised her head, "...Do...it..." Impa stood forwards, "Lady Zelda, you must bless the sword now, before it is too late!"

Fi came forth, "There is another dilemma, Lady Zelda; in accordance to the law of time, all events that have already occurred will only lead back to this current predicament. To reform the chain of time and prevent this from happening, a seal must be placed to prevent Lord Ghirahim from tracing the Chosen's movements." Link looked to the blue figure, "But Ghirahim never traced my movements--he was only following Jacqueline, right?"

"Affirmative, Master Link."

He looked to Zelda, "But how can we prevent Ghirahim from infecting Jacqueline again? Wasn't the point of bringing her along to keep Ghirahim from finding Zelda? What happens if we erase Jacqueline?"

"Lord Ghirahim would be able to trace Lady Zelda much sooner, and..." Fi paused, and Jacqueline understood why. She spoke faintly, "We...get it, Fi...bad things will...happen..." She looked up at Zelda, "...You...need to make a seal to...imprison the Imprisoned, right...?"

Zelda nodded, "And...we need to make a seal to...imprison Future Ghirahim...right?"

Impa and Link looked at one another, and Link looked at his friend, "What are you trying to say, Jacqueline?" Jacqueline smirked, despite her frailty, "It's...something the old woman told me a while back...about a place where time was separated...that things could disappear behind these doors and time wouldn't be affected...I...I think I need to stay here, too..."

"But you'll die! How could you form a seal?"

Zelda gasped, "A seal would save Jacqueline and prevent the darkness from being interfered and given an advantage! If Jacqueline were to make a seal on Ghirahim, she could effectively erase all manner of taint from her body and keep Ghirahim from finding the spirit maiden--me--before he is supposed to! She never would have been in the past, and so Ghirahim would have nothing to taint--"

"...And Jacqueline would...never exist..." Zelda placed a hand on Link's shoulder, "In theory...everyone else she came into contact with wouldn't remember her. But we would." Jacqueline coughed, "...My friends..Fledge....the Lumpy Pumpkin...everyone...even Batreaux--"

"Who?"

"...Just a friend...all of them would forget me...?" The weight of the situation bore down on them, and Impa became more impatient. "Your Grace, I implore you, we must make haste--the Gate is about to--!" There was a mighty explosion from the Gate, and suddenly a violent inferno erupted from its core. In the distant hallway of time, a sinister light began to grow, disintegrating the hallway and fast-approaching the other Gate's entrance. Impa rushed to the Gate, trying to seal it shut. "It is too late--the Gate is locked open! Your Grace, there is no time!"

Zelda placed her hands upon the sword sticking out of Jacqueline's abdomen, and her eyes filled with tears, however she set her lips straight and afforded no quiver. "We must go now.." Link looked frantically down to Jacqueline, who raised her hand and placed it on the sword's hilt. Zelda closed her eyes and began to recite:

"Valiant hero..." Impa was yelling in the distance, the temple shaking hard as the destruction of another era began to pour into the distant past, "...you have endured many hardships and journeyed far in your quest to reach this place..." The light had almost reached the end of the Gate, and Impa used her power to hold up a barrier in a vain attempt to hold it back. Fi rushed to Impa's aid and added her individual power, however the barrier would only buy a few seconds. Zelda continued, "Along your travels, you have found wisdom...power, and courage...and for this..." The light had almost breached the exit of the Gate, and the barrier was close to shattering. Impa cried out for heavenly grace while Fi stoically looked into the light, awaiting their demise. Zelda's words came as the barrier was on the verge of being destroyed, "...I shall bless your sword with the goddess's power..." She looked up at Link as the barrier broke away and destruction reigned upon the era, disintigrating everything in its path. Impa was destroyed, and Fi did not look back and faced the oblivion without falter. Her body vanished as Impa's did, however with silence. The destruction was almost to the final three that stood against Demise. Zelda spoke loudly, "May it give you and your sword the strength to drive back the abomination that threatens this land!"

A golden glow appeared on Link's hand, and he gasped, throwing his hand up into the air. The glow held the apocaplypse back, and a greater explosion of light erupted and stalled the destruction. Suddenly, the oblivion began to recede back whence it came, being sucked back through the Gate of Time and replacing everything that had been destroyed. Impa was lying on the ground and looking around in bewilderment while Fi looked around and turned to where the spirit maiden stood.

Link looked up, staring at what was floating in the air above them all. Jacqueline's body rose to suspend in the air, the ornaments dissolving into small diamonds to die off in the air. Her eyes were slightly open and her mouth ajar as the blade glowed brightly through her. The darkness began to recede like snakes from a fire, starting from the heart and working outward. Her body lit up with designs like tree-roots of light, giving her body renewal. The light reached her head and filtered through her hair, causing the long coils of it to dissolve from the bottom up until her hair had returned to its normal length. The light ebbed away towards Zelda, causing the spirit maiden to glow with increasing power. Jacqueline's former clothes began to grow around her, covering her frame in light. As the last of the light began to float to the spirit maiden, Jacqueline's impaled body dimmed however the light did not fade away. She began to float backwards without cause and her hands lowered to her sides and her legs dangled in the air. Her eyes settled on Link, "I understand what's going to happen...I need to go away now..."

"Where are you going?" Link rushed forwards as a bright light encased Jacqueline. When he reached her, he smacked straight into a chrysallis of gemstone the color of a deep, navy blue, however there were shadows whispering around the edges, and Jacqueline assessed it. "...I need to confront one final trial...I'm going to have to sleep for a while..." Link feverishly looked to Zelda, "Is this going to happen to you, too?" Zelda smiled gently, "I will be asleep for a long time, too...until you reclaim the Triforce...you see, you carry the symbol of worth on your hand." Link looked at the back of his hand and gaped; sure enough, there was an image of three triangles glinting out at him, one specifically glittering towards him. "With the Triforce, you can save this land, Link...you can do it." Link swallowed a painful lump while looking at Zelda, and then he turned back to his encased friend. "Jacqueline..." He looked down at the blade; it was extending out of the crystal, the other end of it stuck inside of the glowing Jacqueline. He raised his hand back to beat on it, however her voice stopped him. "...Link...you have to take the sword with you...retrieve it once I have gone to sleep...save your friends.."

Link shook his head, "But I couldn't even save you." Jacqueline smirked, "...That doesn't sound like the Hero Pants I root for...get it together, Link...you can beat that bastard, right?" He forced a smile and frowned sadly as the light began to die from her form and fade away into nothingness. She closed her eyes and whispered, "Wake me when it's over..." The crystal solidified with a flash of light, causing Link to look away to avoid blinding himself. When he looked back, he gaped in disbelief; Jacqueline's hair had turned golden, its former true color before she had dyed it. The frightening resemblence she had to Zelda was baffling, and he sank to the floor, his hands still on the casing. "Gods...what have we done?"

Zelda sighed, "What must be done...I need to go to sleep too, Link...but first...you must retrieve the Master Sword." Link looked back up at the gemstone chyrsallis and stood slowly. He looked at the blade and the figure it was centered in. He took the blade in his hands, tense and reluctant to take the blade. He sighed and pulled it free, a light emitting from where it was pulled. The wound in Jacqueline healed instantly, and the opening in the crystal evaporated into nothing. Link raised the sword and it awoke to its true nature. "With this blade," Zelda said, "you can banish all evil and restore balance to this world...and with Jacqueline acting as a seal for Ghirahim's taint..." She looked up at the crystal, "...I have full confidence that you will win." Link looked to Zelda, "...You're going away, too?"

She nodded and retreated to the opposite side of the platform, encasing herself into an amber-like crystal. "Link...I owe you an apology for forcing you--and Jacqueline--into something like this...I wish you could have had a normal life..."

"I'd do anything for you, Zelda."

She nodded, "I know...though, Link...come wake me up when it is time, as well...as a favor." Link placed a hand on the crystal, a tear trickling down his cheek, "You woke me up so many times before...it's only right I do the same for you. I promise, Zelda." She smiled and the crystal solidified with a glow of golden light, and she too was asleep. Link bowed his head and hid it in the crook of an arm as Impa and Fi approached slowly. Impa went to Zelda's crystal, while Fi went to Jacqueline's. Fi looked at the sleeping figure as Impa did hers, and they both faced Link. Impa nodded, "This was meant to happen...and now, you must carry on the last of this quest, Chosen."

Link wiped his eyes and turned around, nodding. "I'll do my best; I won't let my friends down again." Fi floated to Link's side, "Master Link, indications have been made to suggest that the degeneration of the world and the Imprisoned's reign have both been negated. It is now safe to return to your timeline." Link nodded and looked to Impa, "What are you going to do? Are you going to come?"

Impa shook her head, "Nay, my place is here to protect Her Grace. I will remain here and watch over both spirit maidens until they awaken once more." Link nodded, "Thanks..." He took one last look at the two crystals before Impa led him out and the doors sealed behind them, cut off from time. Link went to the Gate and stepped through it, leaving Impa to sit in vigil, watching the Gate as it sealed into a simple slab and closed off all passage. In the crystals, the maidens slept.

And Jacqueline wrestled in a peaceless slumber motionlessly, the final Trial to conquer the darkness that threatened the world.
What better way to bide your time than sleeping on the job?

For the readers, no, I am not an angry individual. I'm very pleasant to be around, I love to be with people and socialize with them. I love to write, to game, to explore, and I love my family very much. I am very much Christian and love the Lord a lot. In this edition, I wanted to take a different perspective on story-making and was inspired by a game to write this. If you have questions now, please do hold off on them until the next chapter comes out. More than likely, you'll begin to draw your own conclusions as more information is released to you. Trust me, you'll begin to understand the further the story goes.

I understand if you don't favorite the chapter for harsh language, and I am sorry if I have truly offended anyone out there. It isn't my intention to offend anyone. If I have intrigued you, however, I will be enthusiastic. I plan to continue the series, and I hope to do so with your help. If you have any suggestions or comments to make, make them below this information window in the comment box. If they happen to be insulting, I'll simply just delete them. Nothing personal; just delete them. I don't care. w00t!

It's been a while since that chapter, but finally they're using the place separated from time that Old Impa was talking about. I'm curious about what this trial's going to be like for her since it's in a bit of a different area than the fourth one Link went to. I'm not even sure if it's going to be the same kind of challenge she's faced before, it could be something entirely new. Also, I like that change to her appearance in the crystal, suddenly she actually looks a lot closer to her twin spirit maiden.

They sure left that ceremony to the last minute, Impa and Fi were vaporized temporarily. I wonder, in this case, would they actually have any memory of being destroyed or would it appear to them that it never happened.
